Garbage Collection

Waste Management is responsible for residential trash and yard waste pick up.  The customer service hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and they can be reached at 1-800-796-9696.

    Rules and tips for proper collection:

  1. Rubbish should not be placed out for collection in residential areas before 6:00 p.m. on the day before scheduled pickup and no later than 7:00 a.m. on the day of your scheduled pickup.

  2. The maximum container size is 32 gallon with a 60 pound limit.  Bags should not weigh more than 40 pounds.  (The same applies to yard waste containers and bags.)

  3. Any type of bathtub - including cast iron - can be put at the curb for pickup.

  4. Large household furnishings or appliances will be collected at curbside.  Any appliance that contains freon gas such as refrigerators (for safety, remove all doors) and air conditioners may be set out at the curb on your scheduled day.  Waste Management will collect each item and have a certified, licensed technician remove the freon at no cost to the resident.  Also, If you purchase a new appliance, the company selling the appliance may be able to take your old one.

  5. During a holiday, pick up for that day and the following days that week will be delayed one day, unless the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, then the following week is REGULAR  pick up.  Please check monthly calendar to verify pickup.   Current Waste Management holidays are New Year's Day, Christmas Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day and Thanksgiving.

  6. If you need to get rid of any items not listed above and you do not know how to put it out or if you encounter problems with pick-up, call Waste Management at 1-800-796-9696.  If the issue is still unresolved, call the City Staff Liaison to Sanitation at 445-5200 Ext. 285 or City Hall at 447-3385

Yard Waste

Yard waste will be picked up on your regular rubbish collection day.  Yard waste pick-up season is from April 1st through November 30th only.  

Rules and tips for proper collection:

  1. Place all grass, weeds, shrub clippings, leaves and small tree trimmings in waste containers labeled with a "Yard Waste" sticker or in yard waste paper bags.  Do not mix yard waste with normal garbage.  Yard waste stickers are available at the D.P.W., city hall or the library.  If you do not have enough yard waste stickers, a piece of paper or cardboard with the words "Yard Waste" may be taped to the can.  Remember:  Cardboard boxes and plastic bags are not acceptable containers for yard waste. 

  2. The maximum container size is 32 gallon with a 60 pound limit.  Bags should not weigh more than 40 pounds.

  3. If there is any debris other than yard waste (paper goods, garbage, plastic, rocks, stones, etc.) in the container or bag, it will not be picked up in the yard waste truck.  Do not line the yard waste can with a plastic garbage bag.  

  4. Larger branches, vines, bushes, etc. shall be no longer than 4 feet and tied in bundles.  Logs may be cut down to no more than 18" in length and 6" in diameter, tied and bundled.  No bundle or individual piece shall weigh more than 60 pounds. Please tie with heavy twine or rope.

Long Mondays

Our D.P.W. is open the second Monday of each month - April through October - from 7:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. for residents to drop off household debris that Waste Management will not pick up.  Residents are limited to one load per household each month.  The D.P.W. cannot accept hazardous waste, appliances with freon or wet paint.
