Collection Rules
Rules and tips for proper collection:

Rubbish should not be placed out for collection in residential areas before 6:00 p.m. on the day before scheduled pickup and no later than 7:00 a.m. on the day of your scheduled pickup.

The maximum container size is 32 gallon with a 60 pound limit. Bags should not weigh more than 40 pounds. (The same applies to yard waste containers and bags.).

As part the new contract, Rizzo will supply a 64 gallon recycling container at no charge to residents who request one.  Call them directly at  1-866-772-8900. The City will also sell 64 and 96 gallon trash containers to residents who need a larger container for rubbish. The 64 gallon containers are $41.17/each; the 96 gallon containers are $48.02/each. Use of the larger containers for recycling or waste collection is voluntary. Residents may continue to use the 18 gallon blue recycling containers or a 32 gallon waste can. The choice is yours. Residents who choose to use the 64 gallon recycling carts may keep their 18 gallon bin or place it in their 64 gallon cart for recycling pickup by Rizzo Environmental Services. If you want a larger trash/recycling container, you can order and pay for them at City Hall, 27600 Jefferson Circle Dr. (just south of 11 Mile Rd.). City Hall is open Mon-Fri 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Large household furnishings or appliances will be collected at curbside.
Any appliance that contains Freon gas such as refrigerators and freezers (for safety remove all doors) and air conditioners may be set out at the curb on your scheduled day. Rizzo Services is responsible to have the freon removed by a licensed technician at no cost to the resident. Residents may also place washers, dryers, water heaters, stoves, furnaces, microwaves, garbage disposals, trash compactors, heat pumps, water softeners and other large and small appliances curbside.

During a holiday, pick up for that day and the following days that week will be delayed one day, unless the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, then the following week is REGULAR pick up. Please check monthly calendar to verify pickup. Current Rizzo Environmental Services holidays are New Year's Day, Christmas Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day and Thanksgiving.

If you need to get rid of any items not listed above and you do not know how to put it out or if you encounter problems with pick-up, call Rizzo at 888-US-Rizzo or 888-877-4996. If the issue is still unresolved, call the City Manager's Office at 586-447-3311.
